Checkpoint encounters shooting incident
A motorist on board a Yamaha Mio motorcycle was pronounced dead on arrival after a series of gunshots it received in the checkpoint encounter on June 15, 2017 at about 11:40 PM along the McArthur Highway of Barangay Anolid, Mangaldan, Pangasinan. The unidentified motorist was said to be flagged down by some PNP elements for their late night checkpoint. Instead of stopping, it continuously accelerated and bumped on a signage.
Mangaldan PNP personnel approached the rider who fell down from his motorcycle, but it withdraw a firearm and rained shots to the approaching police. An exchange of bullets happened, hitting the armed motorist in different parts of his body that caused his death.
Scene of the Crime Operative from the Urdaneta PNP Crime Laboratory processed the investigation. Pieces of evidences such as one caliber 38 revolver without serial number loaded with three live ammunition, three fired cartridges, one black holster, and two heat sealed transparent plastic sachets of shabu placed in a brown coin purse was found from the U box of the rider's motorcycle. The cadaver of the unidentified suspect was brought to a funeral parlor for post-mortem examination.
