The City Agriculture Office of Dagupan, in coordination with Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), has delivered payaos to the fisher folks of Barangay Pantal and Barangay Pugaro last July 11, 2017.

In an interview with City Agriculturist Emma Molina: “Payaos are tools to regulate, to manage, and to conserve resources. It is a fish aggregating device. Technically, the use of payaos is to aggregate fishes on areas with no coral reefs. They’re supposed to be breeding grounds and living area for fishes.”

Furthermore, she explained that livelihood among fisher folks is the end goal of the installation of payaos.

“This project will benefit fisher folks because this will give them fixed fishing grounds. The one installed will take about a month before it will be inhabited by fishes,” added Molina.

A total of 12 payaos will be installed along the coastal areas of Dagupan City.
