Cases of leptospirosis increase in Pangasinan

Various towns in Pangasinan are in the watch list of leptospirosis.


Identified towns were: Mangatarem, San Jacinto, Mangaldan, Burgos, Bayambang, Sta. Barbara, Sual, Tayug, Alaminos City, Bolinao, Mabini, San Carlos City, Manaoag, San Fabian, and Alcala.


The Provincial Health Office (PHO) advised the residents of Pangasinan to avoid soaking in floodwaters and if cannot be avoided, residents should wear protective boots to protect oneself against a bacteria called leptospira.


According to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anna de Guzman, six persons have died and 40 suffered with leptospirosis in various parts of the province since January 2017. De Guzman also advised the residents to see a health professional in case they are suffering from illness.
