With the continuous development in providing high quality services, improving efficiency, and attaining sustainability, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region 1 started its planning stage on achieving international quality recognition. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an international setting body which provides guidelines to ensure that products, processes, and services fit for their purpose.

MGB Region 1 recently set up their game plan for the preparation of being ISO certified. The bureau applied certification for the Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015), the Environmental Management System, (ISO 14001) and the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment (ISO 18001).

A gap assessment and planning session was organized in Kahuna Resort in San Juan, La Union last July 11-12, 2017 with the different divisions (Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division, Mine Management Division, Geosciences Division and Finance and Admin Division). Together with the guidance of a top-notch training and consulting company, AGF Consulting Group, MGB-1 hopes to successfully be recognized by ISO. AGF discussed the key principles of ISO which revolves in customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, process approach, improvement, enhanced-based decision making, and relationship management. In the said session, the office focused on the analysis of every division’s process flow on various services. A series of workshops and trainings is set for the office in the succeeding months.

OIC Regional Director Carlos A.Tayag motivated the MGB-1 personnel to double their efforts and strive to work harder and provide better public service. RD Tayag emphasized that through team work and camaraderie, MGB-1 shall be able to develop a professional culture, increase customer satisfaction and understand and communicate the bureau’s processes and services well fit for global standards.
