MGB Region 1 undergoes Gender Development and Sensitivity Training

Aiming to impart the knowledge in gender roles in society, especially in the workforce to both men and women in contemporary society, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region 1 conducted a Gender Development and Sensitivity Training on July 13-14 at Villa d’El-Lita in Sudipen, La Union. It is an initial effort to show how gender shapes the roles of men and women in MGB Region 1 including their role on development and how it affects relationships. The said training was facilitated by the Philippine Commission on Women and certified Gender and Development Resource Speaker and Regional Director of the Commission on Higher Education Region 1 Cherrie Melanie A. Diego.


Topics discussed were gender as a social construct, gender and the role of social institutions, gender and development, concepts and tools for gender analysis and gender alignment. Each topic includes interactive activities, discussions, and forums with the participants. The activity is also in line with the protection of the environment which shall help societies develop the sense of responsibility within the employees needed to maintain a good balance between people and the earth’s natural resources.


Gender biases and stereotypes were deconstructed while gender equality among different individuals was promoted. During the training, participants were encouraged to be honest, open, and true regardless of their gender. Along with the training, MGB-1 also conducted a team building which aims to improve teamwork and better understanding on each other’s strengths and weaknesses.


OIC Regional Director Carlos A. Tayag thanked the cooperation and participation of everyone as the said activity shall enhance their abilities and capabilities thus, they may be able to serve the public better.
