Teacher carries 16 pupils for them to be home goes viral

Heavy rains and high tide have caused West Central Elementary School (WCES) to be flooded. Grade one teacher and Guidance Counselor Leonora Fernandez of WCES carried 16 pupils, from time to time, from their classroom to the parents waiting area on July 24, 2017 to prevent her students from soaking in floodwater.

“As the second parent of these kids, out of love and concern, I don’t want them to be a dengue or leptospirosis victim. They are like my own child,” Fernandez expressed.

40-year old Fernandez is a mother of 3 and a resident of Barangay Salapingao where she needs to ride a motor boat every morning to be in school. She is now on her eight years of teaching and second year as guidance counselor at WCES.

In an interview with Evita Javier, the uploader, she said: “I will post the inspiring picture of Ma’am Fernandez in our school newspaper but the next issue of it will be published on October. I decided to post this online and now it’s viral,” said Javier.
